Getting Florida's Economy Back on Track

Right now Florida families are hurting as small businesses are getting hit especially hard.  With over 90 percent of Florida’s businesses being small businesses, our economy relies on entrepreneurs and business owners having the resources they need to survive and grow in this tough economy.  It is crucial our next Governor understands that while economic growth doesn't come from government, good government helps the private sector by spurring growth and then getting out of the way.

That is why when Alex Sink heard from small business leaders struggling to get loans and access to credit, she did something about it.

Focused on getting results and understanding how important it is for community banks to provide much-needed access to credit for Florida’s small businesses, Alex Sink wrote to Florida’s 167 community banks to encourage them to participate in the federal Small Business Lending Initiative. And yesterday Alex Sink continued her fight for small businesses, by calling for more lending in a letter to Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Chairman Shelia Bair.  Alex had met with Chairman Bair last week and had stressed to her how lending to these small businesses will be an essential part of our state’s overall recovery.

Without access to capital, it’s difficult for small business owners to grow and create jobs.  The health of Florida’s economy is dependent upon small businesses.  Alex Sink is the only candidate in this race with the business experience to work with the private sector to ensure small business owners that create jobs in Florida have the resources they need to grow and prosper.
